who we are

MOBA (Music Owned by Artists) Entertainment is an Atlanta-based record label created by three stalwarts of the reggae industry: singer/songwriter/producer Anthony “Prince Mydas” Hawthorne, musician/producer/songwriter Nigel “Sleepy Splu” Staff and singer/songwriter/producer Rickardo “Rik Rok” Ducent. Mydas, Staff and Ducent began collaborating over 15 years ago while working with famous producer Mikey Bennett and the Two Friends crew, and have since worked extensively in the reggae industry with many phenomenal artists including Shabba Ranks, Cobra, Patra, Born Jamericans, Rayvon, Shaggy, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, and have stepped outside of the genre with artists such as Da Brat, Funky Poets, To The Extreme and Roberta Flack.

MOBA’s mission is to become reggae’s dominant label. The core team of Mydas, Staff and Ducent have began utilizing their considerable international experience and knowledge of the reggae industry to enhance and market the genre on the world stage. They are focusing on the business of music while maintaining the artist’s perspective; in short, they put the artists first. The company steadfastly regards artists as the nucleus of good music, and plans on developing a strong talent roster. Most of MOBA’s production will be in-house, although they look forward to collaborating with other visionary talents, and their initial releases will target core audiences in Jamaica and the U.S.A.

The label is currently putting together an album each from their two main artists, Rik Rok and Prince Mydas. The albums will consist of mainly new songs that will feature the recognizable harmonies of Mydas and Ducent, among others, and is scheduled for release in Spring 2007.
